Objective:
To use substitution to solve systems of linear equations.
Notes:
Steps to solve linear systems by substitution.
- Look for a variable with a coefficient of 1 or −1.
- Solve for the variable in step 1.
- In the other equation, substitute what you found in step 2 for the variable you chose in step 1.
- Solve the equation.
- Substitute the answer you found into one of the original equations and solve for the remaining variable.
- Check your answers in both equations.
- Write your answer as an ordered pair. (Use alphabetical order.)
