3.3 Solving Equations with Variables on Both Sides

Objective:

Use techniques to solve equations.

Vocabulary:

• WYDTOS, DITTO - What you do to one side, do it to the other.
• Isolate - Get it by itself.
• Inverse operations - The opposite operation.

Notes:

For each of your homework problems, do the following:

1. Simplify each side of the equation (if needed).
2. At the same time:
   1. Locate the variable term on the right side of the equation and do the "opposite" operation to eliminate it from the right side.
   2. Locate the variable term on the left side of the equation and do the "opposite" operaton to eliminate it from the left side.
      ***Make sure you line up like terms.
3. Now, isolate the variable by using an "opposite" operation or multiply by the reciprocal. Again WYDTOS, DITTO!
4. Simplify and circle your answer
